ARTDURO 2026 - Artificial Intelligence sucks at making art, but YOU don't. You can also find stuff.

So. You might have figured we forgot about the annual KRUCH event. Well, we certainly didn't. To date - In 2023, 2024 and 2025 KRUCH Custom Steel Bicycles held the "Urbduro" - and that was all well and good and we gave away a custom one-of-a-kind, bespoke, handmade steel bicycle frame to the successful competitor each year. And by every measure it was a success and people had fun and folks made new friends and in 2025 we donated several hundreds of pounds of non-perishables to the Calgary Food Bank. Folks sang karaoke. Nobody died. Wins all around.

Fast forward to 2026. Let's do it again!

What:

Artduro is both a challenging local scavenger hunt AND an art show, with two (2) separate opportunity streams to win a KRUCH bicycle frameset.

The first opportunity is via a bi-weekly clue that will be dropped to participants - over a sixteen (16) week period. Use the clues to find all the hidden codes (around the city of Calgary) - and win the prize. Simple. Although teams may compete - only one person may win.

The entry fee? One piece of original artwork per individual.

The second opportunity is via a "judged" gallery showing of your art piece, at a later date (January 2027). This second opportunity awards a Factory GTREX frame/fork/bar in size medium, large or extra-large - in whatever colour you choose. Again, as above, only one person may win.

Both winners will be announced at the wrap up event, exact date/location to be announced.

*Please keep in mind that your stickman drawn on lined fullscape paper, or your needlepoint landscape - might be exactly what the judges are looking for...we have ensured that the judging will be a completely mysterious crapshoot.

When:

October 2nd. 6PM sharp. The first clue will be sent to registrants via email.

Early January 2027. Wrap up event, art show, DJ showcase, feast - two (2) frames awarded to participants. Exact date to be announced in October at event start.

Where:

The clue(s) will lead to public art installations around the city of Calgary aka YYC.

Who:

Anyone with a bicycle.

Registration:

How? (aka The RULES - please read carefully):

  • Next - create an original piece of artwork that is NOT bicycle themed, this alone is your entry fee.

    • The piece must be no larger than 2ft x 2ft x 2ft.

    • The artwork must be physical in nature, able to be held/grasped/placed on display.

    • You must bring the work of art to us (or drop at one of our sponsors (BikeBike or Bathtub Bikes or The Bicycle Hub) prior to Oct 2nd 2026 at 6PM. Email us to make arrangements, or head to one of the sponsors during open hours.

  • *Understand that by entering the competition, your art piece entry becomes the exclusive property of 1983285 Alberta Ltd.

  • A clue will be emailed to you every two weeks starting Oct 2nd, 2026:

    1. Solve the clue and,

    2. Find the code located at a piece of public art in Calgary and,

    3. Email that code along with a selfie taken at the code location, to the email above.

    1. The person (people) with the most solved clues after all 8 clues are sent out - WINS

    2. The clues will become increasingly difficult as the event progresses. We would very surprised if anyone solved ALL the clues.

  • Tampering with codes that the clues lead to = immediate disqualification. There will be trail cameras deployed on the course.

  • Important - You MUST ride your bicycle when clue searching, and clue finding. A record of this riding must be kept on the Strava app (you likely want to keep this hidden from public view if you intend to win the competition) and have ARTDURO in the title. The winner of the event will be audited carefully. Do not miss this step.

  • Important: you must be present at the wrap-up party to claim either of the framesets in either of the winning opportunities. At the wrap-up party the winners of both frames will be revealed!

A final word:

Much thought has gone into both the clues, and the locations the clues lead to. If at first you don't succeed - try and try again. That code is out there waiting for you to find it! As above, we would be VERY surprised if anyone solved all the clues.

Good luck, see you at the wind-up party.
